On Jan 19, 2017, College of Urban Works Construction (CUWC) held a workshop on "Sustainable R&D for Future Construction Industry". This is a great opportunity for the experts from Hyundai E & C and representatives from Vietnam Ministry of Construction (MOC), vocational training schools as well as businesses to exchange and share experiences on green smart urban development.
Overview of the seminar
Attending the seminar were Mr. Lee Seok Hong - Vice President of Hyundai E&C Korea, Mr. Kim Do Gyoon – Project Manager of Hanoi Metro; Mr. Kim Hyun Joon – General Manager of Hyundai E&C Vietnam Representative Office; Ms. Le Kim Hang - Project Coordinator of Plan Organization. On the side of CUWC, there were Mr. Bui Hong Hue - CUWC’s Rector; Mr. Trinh Van Dung - CUWC’s Vice Rector, as well as representatives from CUWC’s Departments and Faculties. Representatives from MOC’s vocational training schools and from businesses in Hanoi also participated in the session.
In his opening speech, Mr. Bui Hong Hue - CUWC’s Rector - mentioned various urban problems Vietnam is currently facing such as infrastructure shortages and environment degradation as a result of asynchronous urban growth and the desire to find solutions to overcome these challenges. Representatives from MOC’s vocational training schools also show their interest in this area and look forward to learning, sharing and getting access to the experiences as well as achievements from Korea in the near future.

On behalf of Hyundai E & C, Mr. Lee Seok Hong briefly introduced an overview of Hyundai E & C and shared their experiences in construction development in Korea and worldwide; the development trends in urban underground as well as their experiences on developing and managing human resources. Hyundai E & C has been establishing their firm reputation in the construction industry, especially in construction of subway systems and underground pipe technology. As stated by Mr. Lee Seok Hong, Hyundai E & C is ready to transfer modern technologies of Korea to Vietnam and creates opportunities for mutual sharing and collaboration.

During the seminar, leaders of Hyundai E & C, representatives from vocational training schools and from businesses shared experiences on green urban development in Vietnam. This issue is not only of great significance for the MOC but also creates opportunities for training schools to open their new teaching trends as well as a change in their current policy. After the seminar, CUWC hopes to receive further support on technology and experience as well as continual cooperation from Hyundai E & C in the upcoming time.
