On Jan 18th, 2017, the inauguration ceremony of welding and plumbing workshop, funded by Hyundai E&C, Hyundai Motor, The Korea International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) and PLAN International VietNam was held at College of Urban works Construction.

Attending the inauguration ceremony was Mr. Park Sang Sik - Korean Ambassador in Vietnam, Mr. Soon Hwang Sung - Korean Counselor Embassy in Vietnam. From the Ministry of Construction, there was Mr. Nguyen Dinh Toan - Vice Minister, Mr. Dang Van Long - Director General of Department of Planning – Finance. On the side of the donors, there were Mr. Lee Seok Hong - Vice President and CEO of Hyundai E & C Korea; Ms. Kim Gyungah - Deputy Country Director of KOICA Vietnam; Mr. Kim Do Gyoon – Project Manager of Hanoi Metro - Hyundai E&C; Mr. Park Seong Yong – Project Manager of TPP Mong Duong Hyundai E&C; Mr. Oh Myung Sun - Deputy General Director of Hyundai E&C Vietnam Representative Office. From PLAN International, there was Mr. Lee Sangjoo – Country Director of PLAN International Korea; Ms. Sharon Kane - Country Director of PLAN International Vietnam. Participants at the ceremony are also leaders from MOC’s functional departments, General Directorate of Vocational Training, Hanoi Department of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs, businesses, associations, schools and centers as well as media reporters. There was also the presence of Mr. Bui Hong Hue - CUWC’s Rector - Director of Project Management; Mr. Pham Duc Vinh - Rector of Hanoi Industrial Vocational College - Director of Project Management; CUWC’s leaders and teachers as well as 80 Korean students and 105 PLAN project learners.

The project “Disadvantaged Youth Vocational Training in Hanoi” is being conducted in 3 years, from Sep 2015 to June 2018. In this project, Plumbing courses (18 months), Plumbing courses (3-6 months) and Welding courses (3-6 months) will be done at CUWC with the aims to ensure good working skills and promising careers for learners after graduation. Within the project, two workshops (Plumbing and Welding) with modern equipment have been repaired and upgraded; vocational teachers have been trained and transferred modern technology.

The inauguration of the welding and plumbing workshop marks a successful collaboration between CUWC and PLAN International. PLAN plays an extremely important role in connecting donors such as Hyundai E & C, Hyundai Motor and KOICA, as well as coordinating all the project activities. Currently, 4 classes with the total of 105 learners have been organized at CUWC and in practice.

The project focuses on high-quality vocational training for the goal of becoming an industrialized country by 2020 of Vietnam. With this project, young people, especially disadvantaged ones, have the opportunity to access to modern technology and equipment so that they can become skilled labors in the competitive working environment.
The inauguration ceremony of the welding and plumbing workshop at CUWC was successfully accomplished. This is an important milestone, confirming the potential success of the project, providing career opportunities and the chance to improve life for hundreds of disadvantaged students.
